How long would it take to learn and able to speak Spanish to a decent degree?
I also plan to go to some Spanish country (Spain or Mexico) and possibly study there for 1 or 2 semester.
I also used to learn Spanish in HS about 3-4 years ago. Of course I forgot a lot, but still.
I also have plans to study Japanese after I would be decent or fluent in Spanish.

itd take about 1 full yr. trust me

——————————————————————————–

Okay I really enjoy learning. I am a sophomore currently and would like to take harder classes next year, as I was not offered classes that were challanging to me this year. I really wish I had gone into any of the two local IB schools, but my mom did not like that idea.
Currently I am taking seven classes, doing a sport every season and dropped my off period. I have still managed to keep all my A's! (easily…) I have the highest grade in my chem class right now… and the class consists of juniors and seniors mostly. I am good at math related things and such. My school does not offer AP chem though!!! There is a program that I could take the course online for free through my school… is this a bad idea? I am really into chem and love it. Also if I am doing really good in honors algebra II, would it be a bad idea to skip pre-calc, (or study it on my own in the summer)? I feel my school is limiting what I can learn… and I want to be challanged. I am getting bored…

So my schedule next year would be:

1. AP Calc BC (or AB…?)
2. AP Physics
3. AP chem
4. AP history
5. AP english
6. Honors Spanish 3
7. Free period

Is this a good or bad idea to load up like that? I am planning on majoring in going into a math/science field in college… should I drop AP english or AP history then? I really like those subjects as well though. As I mentioned I am taking all honors this year and am doing really well.
My AP physics teacher only took one semester of physics? and most of his students did not learn anything and did not pass the AP exam? Is there any other options for taking AP physics? Like online?

I don't ever recommend students to take any core academic classes online, because it's better if you get a hands on experience with those classes. Take electives online.

If you've never had an AP class before, then don't kill yourself by taking 5 like that. I made easy A's Freshmen year, and decided to go 2 AP's and 3 honors my Sophomore year and I still regret it till this day. My GPA dropped from a 3.8 to a 3.4. I suggest you drop at least 2 AP courses. Honors and AP are different cases, and AP is suppose to be taught on a College level, so you will have many tests and A TON of reading.

You should take Pre-Calculus Junior year, and AP Calculus Senior year. As far as Science go, choose between either Physics or Chemistry. Keep the AP Language and Composition and the History. Once again, I really do not recommend taking any core classes online. Remember that besides the classes you take and grades, you need to take other things into consideration such as extracurricular activities, SAT/ACT.

My advice would be to take the SAT and ACT at least ONCE before you go off to Christmas break Junior year, study as hard as you can and take it another time before summer begins, and start wrapping things up to apply for Colleges. Do not wait until the last minute like a lot of kids.

Just remember that these AP classes can either harm you or help you. You want to take rigor courses, but you also want to aim for success.

Best of luck to you. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me through my profile.

SPANISH HELP PLEASE!!?

category: Learn Spanish

Hi! I am now a student teacher assistant and for next year, I have been assigned to create a paragraph of how to do a simple task as a quiz for the incoming students. I obviously do not speak any spanish at all. I need help to translate this so that I may write it on the board as a type of starting quiz for the students!!
Just a secret: its about how to write your name! :)

Here is the paragraph I have written.
I know the online translation is always availiable, but I want to do it right this time.

Please help!!

Here is my paragraph!

You will need a writing instrument and a place to write on. In this case, I will be using a marker and a white board. Other than material goods, a great deal of knowledge is required to do this pains taking task. The alphabet is the first thing you must learn, followed by your name, the shape of the letters. Remember, memorization does not come easily, but if it doesn’t work the first time, try, try again. First start by grabbing your writing tool and place it in your hand so it feels comfortable. Position your target so that your writing instrument may reach it without much struggle. You must do your best in aiming your utensil at your target. Be careful not to mark undesignated areas. Doing this may result in a scolding from your parents or teachers. Place the tip on the target, and once secure, drag the tool in a motion to resemble the letters in your name. Do your best to remember the shapes and the order of the letters. Putting the letters in an incorrect order may result in confusion over one’s identity. Please remember to never give up. Thank you. By the way, those who pass this quiz will be given a 100 pt boost at the end of the semester!! Try your best!

Well, I hope someone can help!!

Muchos gracias!!
Jason.

Hi Jason! Here you will find my traslation, I'm a Spanish speaker from Argentina. I used the informal 2nd person form "tú"("meaning "you", in English) , because I got this paragraph would be addresed to students, though the vocabulary is rather Spanish Standard and no slangs or vulgarisms were used. In case the paragraph will be addressed to adults, senior o professional people, you just let me know and I'll be pleased to turn it into the formal treatment. Here we go:

¡Haz tu mejor esfuerzo!"

Note that in Spanish we have two exclamation marks ("¡" at the begining and "!" at the end of the sentence) instead of English. The same is applied to question marks ("¿" and "?"). A small (and perhaps insignificant) but useful tip for right Spanish spelling.

Do not hesitate on being in touch, my e-mail is: gabikesalgueiro@hotmail.com.

Good luck!

ps: i need to keep the phrases/words in parentheses()
their tense can be changed but the base word/phrases needs to stay the same.
and make it as simple as possible (no big words only in spanish 2)
Thank you! in advance.
